Practice Sessions and Race Schedule

Obby Tapley is coordinating J24 crew development.  If you would like to try your hand at racing aboard a J24, contact her at (860) 389-3443 or Idtapley@aol.com  to sign up for any of these sessions or to ask questions.  She plans to coordinate people interested in crewing with skippers/boat owners looking for crew for each race throughout the season.  Changes to this schedule will be posted in the Clubhouse and communicated to the J24 fleet and those interested in crewing.

Sunday, June 1, 1 PM on Water Practice Session

On Water Practice of Upwind Sailing and Downwind Sailing

We will arrange for boats to be at the dock and assign people to the boats

Thursdays, June 19, 26, and July 3 on Water Practice Sessions

We will practice race starts on June 19.  We will run practice races on June 26 and July 3.  These races will not count for the Thursday night series ranking.

Sunday and Thursday Races

Sunday races are scheduled from June 8 through August 24 at 1 PM. These races use spinnakers and genoa jib if conditions permit.  Generally, 4 people per boat are needed.

Thursday races are scheduled from June 19 through August 14 at 6 PM with the first three nights as practice sessions.  Initially, the small jib will be used with no spinnaker.  Two to four people per boat are needed.  If enough boats and crew are available, we may allow spinnakers and genoa jibs.

Friday PHRF Races

These are twilight races when one or more J24s can compete with other sized boats in the SHYC fleet on a handicap basis. Scheduled dates are 6/13, 6/27, 7/11, 7/25 & 8/29. BBQ on the Club porch follows the races. Another good opportunity to learn about racing.
