The SHYC Sailing Foundation, Inc., is pleased to announce that SHYC is hosting the Commodores Olympic Gala on August 11 to benefit two local sailors in their quest for Olympic Gold in the International 470 Class. The two sailors are Erin Maxwell (daughter of SHYC members Wes Maxwell & Mary Anne Stets) and her teammate, Isabelle Kinsolving.

The Gala features a Creative Sailor Formal dress code, a Rosenfeld Theme of great sailing B&W photos from Mystic Seaport, Presentations by the Olympians, Open Bar All Evening (6:30 to 11 PM), Live Music & Dancing by the Rock & Soul Review, Elegant & Abundant Sailor Provisions, a reduced ticket price for those who are 30 and under and a few other surprises that we are still developing.

Erin Maxwell (of Stonington) and Isabelle Kinsolving (of Fishers Island) have teamed up in the International 470 Class to represent the United States at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China. Their combined experience, rigorous training schedule and competitive drive pave their way to Olympic gold.

Erin has been on the US Sailing Team since 2000, actively competing in the 470. She has been the top US women's team at the US 470 National Championships four times since 2002. In the 2003 Olympic Trials, Erin placed third, barely missing a berth in the Olympics. Now her Olympic passion is stronger than ever.

Isabelle was on the top-ranked US 470 women's team for three straight years from 2002 through 2004. She won the Olympic Trials and placed 5th at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. She is now ready to go back for gold!

Erin and Isabelle combined forces in the summer of 2006 and have formed 470 Team USA. Over the next 18 months, they will work to become one of the top ranked teams in the world, qualify for the Olympic Games and bring home gold for the United States.

470 Team USA - Sailing Career Highlights
Erin Maxwell (Has won a total of ten national championships between the ages of 14 and 25)
- Two-time National Champion in Blue Jay Class at ages 14 and 15 (first girl to win the class two years in a row)
- Two-time National Champion; Ida Lewis Trophy at ages 17 & 18 (Women's National Doublehanded Championship, Club 420's)
- Two-time National Champion at ages 19 & 20 in Club 420 North American Championships (only women's skipper ever to win this championship)
- At age 21, National Champion in Intercollegiate Women's Championships
- Three-time National Champion in the 470 Class at ages 23, 24, & 25 (two of the three were co-ed)
- Five-time Intercollegiate All-American while attending Dartmouth (including one co-ed as skipper in 2001)
- 470 Olympic Trials: 5th in 1999, 3rd in 2003...on pace for #1 in 2007
Isabelle Kinsolving (Sailed for the USA in 2004 Olympics in Athens)
- Excelled in Blue Jays and 420's while sailing out of Fishers Island Yacht Club, where she also taught sailing and was a member of FIYC ECSA Champtionship in 1995.
- Led Yale University Sailing Team for four years, was Team Captain in 2000
- 1st Place in 2002 ICSA New England College Championships
- 1st Place in 2002 US Women's 470 Pre-Trials
- 1st Place in 2003 US Sailing's Rolex Miami OCR in Women's 470
- 1st Place in 2003 US Women's 470 Olympic Trials
- 3rd Place in 2004 European 470 Championships
- 5th Place in 2004 SUMMER OLYMPICS in Athens, Greece...now ready to go back for the gold
Most recently, they finished 3rd out of 68 boats in a major international regatta in Spain last week. A very impressive feat considering that they had only been training full-time for two weeks.
