Our primary Race Committee boat is Galatea, a converted lobster boat and our RC Mark Boat is Acis, a 24-foot center console with outboard. Our season gets underway in early April each year and typically ends around the end of November. For all of the following series, we give out prizes each week at the Shore Party at SHYC for first, second and third; you must attend the party in order to receive your prize.
  1. The Spring Frostbite series for Lasers and Ideal 18's starts in early April and normally continues for ten consecutive weeks. (open to the public)
  2. The summer J-24 Sunday series starts in early June and normally continues for 12 consecutive weeks, featuring three 4-week mini-series. (open to the public). We also conduct races for the Shields Class racers from Mason's Island on about 2/3 of the Sundays. For 2012, we may also race Vipers.
  3. The Friday Twilight PHRF series begins in late June and continues for ten consecutive weeks, ending just before Labor Day weekend. (Open to the public for all boats over 18 feet, larger boats preferred). Shore parties begin each week at approximately 7:30. Family participation is encouraged.
  4. The annual Big Jack Race to Block Island (the Saturday after Labor Day) is open to club members and their guests only. The Shore Party is open to ALL SHYC members and power-boaters are strongly encouraged to attend the event and stay overnight.
  5. The Fall Frostbite series for Lasers and Ideal 18's starts in mid-September and normally continues for ten consecutive weeks until late November. (open to the public)
In addition to the above series, we also host a number of ECSA sailing events and other special sailing events. For more information, contact any of the RC committee heads listed above.

Fair winds, Jim
